The Primaveral Doily


With the Primaveral Doily you can fully express your creativity and individuality. Choose colors that make you happy. Create a mandala doily that brings a smile to your face. Use the finished mandala as a coaster or mural or turn it into a cushion. The only thing that matters is that the sight of your crochet fills you with joy and pride!

The pattern is written instruction using U.S./American terminology.
The Crochet skill level is advanced. You should be able to crochet front and back post stitches, Clusters, Splits, Popcorns, and Puff stitches.


The pattern consists of 25 rounds. The finished size of the doily on pattern cover is 34 cm / 13.3 inches.

Stitches & Terms Abbreviations US

st/sts – stitch/stitches

ch – chain

ch-sp – chain-space

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

tr – treble crochet

BLO – back loops only

prev – previous

BPsc – back post single crochet

BPdc – back post double crochet

BPhdc – back post half double crochet

FPdc – front post double crochet

pop – popcorn; 5 dc in the same st, remove the loop from the needle, place the needle 

from the front through the first dc, put the loop back on the needle and pull through. 

Close with ch1 (ch1 does not count as a st)

FPdc2tog – front post double crochet 2 together around given sts

BPdc2tog – back post double crochet 2 together around given sts

dc2tog – double crochet 2 together in given sts/ch-sp

sc2tog – single crochet 2 together across two sts

DTR – double treble crochet (y/o 3)

FPSC – front post single crochet

FPDC – front post double crochet

FPTR - front post triple crochet

FP-DTR - front post double triple crochet

y/o – yarn over

FP-SlSt – front post slip stitch: insert hook from front to back around post of stitch 

indicated, y/o and pull it through to the front side of work.

FP-CSDC – chainless starting front post double crochet (if you prefer you may substitute 

FP-SlSt + CH 3).

FP-Shell – 3 FPDC around stitch indicated. While completing FP-Shell over FP-Shell of 
previous round, work around the middle stitch, skipping the first and third stitches of FPShell of previous round.
Beginning FP-Shell – replace first FPDC with FP-CSDC (or FP-SlSt + CH 3), then work 
next 2 FPDC around stitch indicated.
Puff-5 – (y/o, insert hook in space indicated and pull up a loop on the height of DC) 5 
times, y/o, 11 loops on hook, pull through first 10 loops, y/o, pull through last 2 loops 
on hook.
FP-Puff-5 – (y/o, insert hook around stitch indicated and pull up a loop on the height of 
DC) 5 times, y/o, 11 loops on hook, pull through first 10 loops, y/o, pull through last 2 
loops on hook.
Cluster-2-FPDC – holding back the last loop of 2 stitches of Cluster set, complete 2 FPDC 
around stitch indicated, y/o and pull through all loops on hook.
Cluster-3-FPDC – holding back the last loop of 3 stitches of Cluster set, complete 3 FPDC 
around stitch indicated, y/o and pull through all loops on hook.
Split (or decrease) - holding back the last loop of all stitches of Split set, insert hook in 
stitches or spaces indicated, y/o, pull through all loops on hook.
Split-2-FPDC - holding back the last loop of 2 stitches of Split set, complete 2 FPDC around 
stitches indicated, y/o and pull through all loops on hook.
Beginning Split – replace first stitch with appropriate Beginning stitch, then follow the 
instructions of Split.
Y-Stitch – FP-DTR around next FPSC, CH 1, DC in second yarn over of FP-DTR just 
made.
Extended Split-3-FPSC - holding back the last loop of all stitches of Split set, work FPSC 
around each of 3 stitches indicated, 4 loops on hook, y/o and pull through first 3 loops on 
hook, y/o and pull through last 2 loops on hook.

Good to know
  • Initial stitches are made as standing stitches or replaced with chain stitches;
  • ch1 = 1 sc, ch2 = 1 hdc, ch3 = 1 dc
  • End each round with a sl st in the first stitch unless otherwise stated.
  • Continue with given color until a new one is specified.
  • Total number of stitches within () at the end of each round.
  • If the stitches mentioned are not on the round, they should be skipped.
  • Please read through the «Stitches & Terms» section before beginning, in this 
  • section the main stitches and terms are listed.
  • Since your tension is individual and different for everyone, the number of chains in 
  • spaces between elements and the number of stitches in Popcorns, Clusters and 
  • Puffs can be adjusted.
  • Do not forget to block your doily when you are finished.

Pattern 

Round 1: (245- Blue Sochi) In magic ring work CSDC (or CH 3), CH 1, [DC, CH 1] 11 times. Join with FP-SlSt around CSDC. (12 DC, 12 ch1-spaces).

Round 2: (37- Orange) CH 1, FP-Puff-5 around CSDC, CH 1, *FP-Puff-5 around next 
DC, CH 1* around. Join with FP-SlSt around first FP-Puff-5. Mark second FPPuff-5 for 
Round 4. (12 FP-Puff-5, 12 ch1-spaces).

Round 3: (326- Dark Fuschsia) Beginning Split-2-FPDC [see Stitches & Terms] using 
first and second FP-Puff-5 (first leg = CH 2), CH 3; *Split-2-FPDC [see Stitches & 
Terms] using same and next FP-Puff-5, CH 3* around, work the second leg of last Split 
around first FP-Puff-5, CH 3, join with FP-SlSt around Beginning Split-2-FPDC. (12 
Split-2-FPDC, 12 ch3-spaces).


Round 4: (123- Green) 
NOTE: Special Split: holding back the last loop of next 3 stitches of Split set, work FPDC 
(= first leg) around same Split of Round 3 as the 3rd leg of previous Split made; FP-DTR 
(= second leg) around next FPPuff-5 of Round 2; FPDC (= third leg) around next Split of 
Round 3; 4 loops on hook, y/o, pull through all loops on hook.
Beginning Special Split: work the first leg as CH 2 around Beginning Split, second leg (FPDTR) around marked FP-Puff-5 of Round 2, then follow the instructions in the NOTE 
above. Beginning Special Split [see NOTE], CH 4; *Special Split [see NOTE], CH 4* 
around, work the third leg of last Split around Beginning Split-2-FPDC of Round 3, CH 4, 
join with FP-SlSt around Beginning Split. (12 Special Split, 12 ch4-spaces).

Round 5: (245- Blue Sochi) 
NOTE: Special Split: holding back the last loop of next 5 stitches of Split set, work FPTR 
(= first leg) around same Split of Round 4 as the 5th leg of previous Split made; in next 
ch4-space work (TR, Puff-5, TR) (= 2nd, 3rd and 4th legs); FPTR (= 5th leg) around next 
Split of Round 4; y/o, pull through all loops on hook.
Beginning Special Split: work the first leg as CH 3 around Beginning Split, then follow the 
instructions above. Beginning Special Split [see NOTE] using first 2 Splits and ch4-space, 
CH 6; *Special Split [see NOTE] using same and next Splits and ch4-space, CH 6* around, 
work the 5th leg of last Split around Beginning Split of Round 4, CH 6, join with FP-SlSt 
around Beginning Split. (12 Special Split, 12 ch4-spaces).

Round 6: (149- Fuschsia) CH 1 (= Beginning FPSC), 8 SC in next ch6-space; *FPSC 
around next Split, 8 SC in next ch6-space* around, join with FP-SlSt around Beginning 
FPSC. (96 SC, 12 FPSC).

Round 7: (185- Baby Pink) Chain 4 (counts as dc and ch-1 sp), *skip 1 stitch, dc in next, 
ch 1* around. Join with a sl st in 3rd chain of first ch4. (54 dc and 54 ch-1 sp)

Round 8: (K273- Light Orange) make a standing dc in any ch-1 sp from prev round, 
make 1 more dc in same space, *ch 2, make 2 dc cluster stitch in same space. *skip next 
ch-1 sp, 2 dc cluster st, ch2, 2 dc cluster st in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from this sequence
until the end.

Round 9: (610- Emerald) Make 5dc-popcorn st in ch-2 sp, ch 4, popcorn in next ch-2 sp 
and repeat until the end. (26 popcorns)

Round 10: (326- Dark Fuschsia) Standing sc into the eye of any popcorn, [3 dcs in ch4 
sp of rnd 8 AND ch sp between popcorns, sc in eye of next popcorn] repeat this sequence 
until the end of the round. Sl st to beg st. (72 dcs)

Round 11: (37- Orange) : Start in the eye of any popcorn, *1 tr, ch 6, 1 tr in the next 
st, skip 4 st (to the next popcorn)* Repeat around. (34 tr, 17 ch sp)

Round 12: (245- Blue Sochi) sl st into ch sp, *[3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc,] in ch sp* (162 dc, 81 ch 
sp). Repeat around.

Round 13: (149- Fuschsia) In ch-1 sp and between clusters make *dc, ch 2, dc (a vstitch in other words)*. Repeat around.

Round 14: (185- Baby Pink) In ch-2 sp and between clusters make *dc, ch 2, dc or vstitch*. Repeat around.

Round 15: (K273- Light Orange) Sl st in ch-sp, *(1 dc, ch1, 1 dc, ch1, 1 dc) in each chsp. Repeat around.

Round 16: (123- Green) *FPdc2tog around last dc in one group and first dc in next 
group, skip ch-sp, 5 dc in next dc, skip ch-sp*. Repeat around.

Round 17: (245- Blue Sochi) *FPdc around FPdc2tog, ch3, skip 2 sts, BPsc around next 
dc, ch3, skip 2 sts*. Repeat around.

Round 18: (37- Orange) FPSC around the FPDC from round 17. (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in 
the next BPdc) 2 sc in next ch space and 2 sc in next. FPsc around the next fpdc, and repeat 
this sequence around.

Round 19: (610- Emerald) Begin in any chsp. *1 sc in chsp, ch2, skip 3 dc+1 sc, 4 dc in 
the BLO, ch2, skip 1 sc+3 dc*. Repeat around.

Round 20: (149- Fuschsia) make a sc in the middle of 4 dc part from prev. round, skip 3 
sts, in the next sc (tr2tog, ch3, tr2tog, ch3, tr2tog, ch3, tr2tog)* sk ch-2 and 2 dc from 
prev round and make a sc. Repeat round (tr2tog, ch3, tr2tog, ch3, tr2tog, ch3, tr2tog)*, 
slip stitch.

Round 21: (185- Baby Pink) FPDC around the first TR2TOG. 3 DC in ch-3 sp of first 
petal. FPdc around the petal (tr2tog), * fpdc around the tr2tog, 3dc in next chain space*.

Round 22: (K273- Light Orange) BLO sc in each dc (13 sc), make a popcorn stitch 
around the sc from round 20, back loop sc in next 13 stitches. 

Round 23: (245- Blue Sochi) *BPsc around the popcorn stitch, ch 13*. Repeat around.

Round 24: (245- Blue Sochi) in ch-13 space (2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr, 2 dtr,ch-3 picot, 2 
dtr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, 2 sc). Repeat around.

Round 25: (326- Dark Fuschsia) V-st around the popcorn st from round 22. Make sc in
each of the next dc, dc, tr, tr, dtr, dtr. Sc-pc-sc in ch-3 picot, sc in each of the next 6 
stitches (which are dtr, dtr, tr, tr, dc, dc). V-st around the next popcorn. Repeat around.

Fasten off, clean loose ends and block your doily for a beautiful result.
